I'm an Austin native who's spent years going deep on beverages, from roasting coffee, brewing beer, mixing cocktails, and eventually distilling my own spirits. I fell in love with bourbon, scotch, agave spirits, you name it. But rum felt shallow, or at least like a mystery I hadn't solved yet.

When I finally dug in, I was blown away! I discovered rum to be the most complex and diverse spirits in the world. Its story is one of rebellion, resilience, and rediscovery and once you start going down the rabbit hole of what actual rum can be, it's hard to stop. It was like uncovering a treasure hidden in plain sight.

The problem was finding the good stuff. Most of what's on current shelves is bland white rum, vague "gold" rum, or overly sweet spiced rum, with labels full of cliché and lacking any real information. Great bottles were out there, but they were buried, often dusty, or in outdated packaging that you'd walk right past unless you already knew what you were looking for.

So I decided to do something about it. I started Spinnaker, a rum brand with one simple promise: great-tasting, authentic, additive-free rum that's honest about what it is. Whether I'm hunting down single casks from the world's best distilleries, sourcing bold and interesting blends, or distilling right here in Austin, I'm bringing you the best rum I can find by any means necessary.
